HUIT Announces Important Changes to On-premises Hosting

February 17, 2017

Harvard’s move to the Cloud offers an opportunity to reduce costs, improve application performance, and add much needed security and disaster recovery to all of our applications. A key objective of the Cloud Program is to migrate all applications currently hosted at the 60 Oxford Street data center to the Cloud by the end of FY18 for HUIT applications, and the end of FY19 for all others.

As an important first step, HUIT is immediately discontinuing all on-premises provisioning at the 60 Oxford Street data center, and implementing a "Cloud first” policy that all new applications should be created in the Cloud.

We understand that this change is not without an impact. For those of you who manage applications, the office of the CTO, in coordination with the Decommissioning Governance Committee (DGC), is available to advise on Cloud options, assist with configuration-related provisioning requests, and collaborate with customers to create alternative provisioning solutions in the event of special circumstances.

For more information, or questions about your specific application, please contact the Decommissioning Governance Committee and the Cloud Technology and Security Workgroup at dgc@HU.onmicrosoft.comcloudtechsec@HU.onmicrosoft.com.
